Cultivating GMP Human Resources Capable of Meeting Global Standards
This endowed laboratory was established in June 2026 through the generous support of API Co., Ltd. The Japanese pharmaceutical industry is entering a major transition period, facing challenges such as addressing drug supply instability, adopting new modalities like biopharmaceuticals and nucleic acid therapeutics, and complying with global quality standards. Under these circumstances, there is an urgent need to cultivate highly specialized professionals who understand world-class Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and can lead manufacturing, quality control, and quality assurance. By integrating the university's expertise in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and analytical chemistry with API Co., Ltd.'s practical technologies and know-how cultivated over many years in pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality assurance, our laboratory will implement a new model of GMP education focused on two main pillars: student education and reskilling for working professionals. Regardless of their future career paths--whether as hospital pharmacists, community pharmacists, regulatory officials, or pharmaceutical industry professionals--our goal is to foster pharmaceutical talent who scientifically and systematically understand "quality," the lifeline of pharmaceuticals, and can deliver safe and effective medicines to patients. Additionally, we will provide reskilling programs tailored to the specific needs of companies operating in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality assurance. Furthermore, beyond education, we will promote research activities in collaboration with the Laboratory of Pharmaceutics as a discipline of "practical science" that addresses real-world challenges in pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality assurance.
